"Healing is much more than tissues simply knitting themselves back together again after an injury. You want to be pain free and have normal use again. That's my job."
Muscles are very subject to the wear and tear of daily activities. Accident, injuries, repetitive use and poor conditioning can bring on muscular related symptoms that may reoccur frequently over the course of many years or perhaps even a lifetime.
The symptoms of muscular related pain can range from general discomfort to deep and intensely aching pain in any area of the body and even feeling like it originates deep inside a joint. Sometimes a lightning like stab of pain may occur and occasionally the sensation of numbness can be felt that may not be caused by nerve entrapment. Weakness is common and the inability of a muscle to respond favorably to exercise may be noticed. Pain symptoms are worse at night, and during periods of inactivity, like long rides in the car or sitting at a desk for extended periods. Does that describe you?
Neuromuscular therapy was first developed by chiropractors Stanley Lief and Boris Chaitow in Europe during the 1930’s. Development of the science behind this therapy and its recognition by the health care community lead to making Olympic history when in 2000 at the Sydney Olympic games the first neuromuscular therapist was included as a fully accredited Olympic medical team member.
Neuromuscular therapy is a type of deep tissue therapy where application of specialized strokes and pressure is used to loosen abnormally tightened tendons, ligaments, fascia and muscles which may harbor very tender nodules that are at the very heart of soft tissue problems. Stretching and trigger point therapy may also be used.
In the hands of a skilled therapist remarkable results have been documented in the treatment of the pain associated with arthritis, headaches, sciatica, back pain, including bulging and herniated discs, along with joint pain and stiffness.
Neuromuscular therapy is not to be confused with other types of relaxation massage. Rather, this therapy is medically indicated, results oriented and is known to relieve persistent and sometimes long-term muscular issues.
The stages of recovery after injury are...
1. Eliminate the protective muscle spasm and calm the nervous system with massage and remove
all contraction knots that have developed.
2. Restore proper range of motion with muscle lengthening exercises.
3. Restore strength with resistance exercises.
4. Restore conditioning with aerobic exercise.
The biggest mistake made in recovery by many healthcare professionals is skipping the first step!
That is why many people never truly, entirely recover.
